CRASH the new Mini Cooper at just 5mph and you're looking at a repair bill of $1,500 (£1,000).

So say US accident investigators, who also found that Audi's new A4 escaped with just $216 (£145) worth of damage at the same speed.

Since around half of all accident claims are for damage sustained at below 5mph, the Cooper result should worry its BMW bosses.
